This fluid is refined and sold as succubus medicine for a very high price. Succubi are hunted for the anesthetic they secrete as it produces extreme pleasure in their prey. Succubi secretions and larvae have been used in the following dishes: Cooked succubus larva tastes milky and has a springy texture. Their secretions smell and taste much like milk, while their larvae can be prepared and eaten like shrimp. While succubi themselves are not consumed, their larvae and the secretions they use to feed them are. Also, once the pleasure from the succubi's anesthetic wears off, the bitten area on the victim swells up and becomes very itchy, but the swelling and itching appears to reduce over time. Interestingly, consumption of succubus milk can revive the victims of succubi who have had their essences drained. In folktales, it is said that putting a bowl of milk next to one's pillow will cause a succubus to drink the milk instead of attacking the person for their vital essences. This protectiveness can be exploited by adventurers by throwing the succubi larvae away from the area, thereby drawing the succubi away as well. In addition, succubi are extremely protective of their young and will prioritize the safety of their larvae over all else. However, since succubi are physically quite fragile, if one is not immobilized the monster can be defeated fairly easily. It has been stated that it is impossible to win against them in a one on one fight, although in some specific circumstances it has been possible. They appear to be unable to target multiple people at once, hence it is highly recommended to only hunt succubi when there is at least one other person present, such that if one member is immobilized by the succubus the other can attack and kill the monster. ![]() This appearance can be that of someone they find physically attractive, a member of their family, or even what they most desire to be. Succubi will take on the appearance of what appeals most to their victim to charm and immobilize them, preventing their victim from attacking them while they drain them of their vital essences. The larvae of succubi resemble mosquito larvae, with segmented abdomens and hair-like protrusions that they use to propel themselves through water. They convert these vital essences into a milk-like substance which they secrete through the anus to feed their larvae. The succubi then drain their victims of their vital essences like blood and other bodily fluids. Succubi use a needle-like appendage protruding from either their mouth or hand to sting their victims, injecting them with an anesthetic through their saliva that causes extreme pleasure in the victim. The succubi that appear in the dungeon are formally known as succubus mosquitoes which are a rare species of insect that feeds their young with milk. ![]() ![]() ![]() The previous three Encounters seasons had been railroads, which guided players carefully from one encounter to the next. There were also some changes in "March of the Phantom Brigade" related to how the individual encounters were linked. These changes were all supported by experience points being awarded for roleplaying and other sorts of non-combat interaction. Overall, Thompson tried to make sure that each encounter has some opportunity for roleplaying and some opportunity for discovery, so that each one felt like a mini-D&D adventure. ![]() For the roleplayers, there's a large cast of NPCs who have been more extensively detailed, providing more opportunity for interaction. the ones who like a little bit of everything in their adventures."įor the explorers, the first couple of weeks focus on an Oregon Trail sort of trailblazing, in which players have the opportunities to "poke around and gain a little information" throughout the adventure. As a a result, author Thompson set out to support a bunch of different players, including "the explorers, the roleplayers, the combat junkies, and. However, by Season 4, Wizards had been hearing that players wanted more than a weekly combat scenario. In the previous seasons of Encounters, each week's gameplay tended to center on a single battle, often prefaced by a bit of optional roleplaying. "March of the Phantom Brigade" ran from February 9, 2011, to May 4, 2011.Ībout the Encounter Format. This caused some problems within the organized play format, because players would often come and go from week to week. There were also some major changes ruleswise: Previously, characters had gained levels together at the ends of specific Encounters now players gained experience individually and could level up at dramatically different times. "March of the Phantom Brigade" changes all of this by collecting all of the chapters into a single book and laying out the adventure as a single narrative. Previous Encounters seasons had divided their modules into multiple books (one per chapter) and had been organized using the Dungeon Delve (2009) format, which separates out individual encounters (including tactical battles) from the normal flow of the module. Because Wizards was working up to a year ahead on its Encounters, "March of the Phantom Brigade" was probably the first opportunity they'd gotten to respond to feedback on the Encounters program-hence the large number of changes. That said, "March of the Phantom Brigade" premieres some considerable renovations to the Encounters format, including the layout of the physical book, its structure, the rules for playing the season, the design of the individual encounters, and the design of the adventure as a whole. In "March of the Phantom Brigade," there are three chapters with lengths of 4, 4, and 5 encounters, for 13 total weeks of play. These encounters are arranged into chapters characters can take short rests between most encounters and extended rests between chapters. It's a module that was used for organized play of 1st- to 3rd-level characters, with each week of play consisting of just one encounter and meant to run two hours or less. ![]() "March of the Phantom Brigade" continues in part with the model set during previous seasons of D&D Encounters. When features in the training set exhibit statistical dependence, permute-and-predict methods can be highly misleading when applied to the original model. As an alternative, we discuss and recommend more direct approaches that involve measuring the change in model performance after muting the effects of the features under investigation. We explore these effects across various model setups and find support for previous claims in the literature that PaP metrics can vastly over-emphasize correlated features in both variable importance measures and partial dependence plots. In particular, we describe how breaking dependencies between features in hold-out data places undue emphasis on sparse regions of the feature space by forcing the original model to extrapolate to regions where there is little to no data. The purpose of our work here is to (i) review this growing body of literature, (ii) provide further demonstrations of these drawbacks along with a detailed explanation as to why they occur, and (iii) advocate for alternative measures that involve additional modeling. However, numerous studies have found that these tools can produce diagnostics that are highly misleading, particularly when there is strong dependence among features. Methods such as the variable importance measures proposed for random forests, partial dependence plots, and individual conditional expectation plots remain popular because they are both model-agnostic and depend only on the pre-trained model output, making them computationally efficient and widely available in software. This paper reviews and advocates against the use of permute-and-predict (PaP) methods for interpreting black box functions. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The star attraction if, of course, the needle itself-a 400 foot observation tower in the heart of downtown offering 360 degree views of Gatlinburg.
